SPECIAL STITCHES:
X St: skip one st, dc in nest st, 1 dc in st just skipped..

There are 2 ways you can create this X st

#1: skip one st, dc in next st, 1 dc over front of st just made into front of skipped st, thru forming a X st

#2: skip next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc from back and into the front of skipped st, thus forming an X st

I use #2 for all my patterns. It makes a nicer & more pronounced X

May Day Hanging Basket

{In Honor of Tracy Ann}
"JMSQ "Copyright March © 2000-2011

Years ago, when my Mother was a girl, they would make some cute baskets out of colored paper and pick some fresh wild flowers that had bloomed and place the flowers in their May Day Basket, then "quietly" put their May Day Flowers on someones doorstep and leave, Giving the reciever a Special Surprise when they arrived home or happened to come out doors. This was always done on May 1st of each year, and in secret. {Random Act of Kindness & Love}

Now I thought about this over the years from time to time, and I've come up with a sweet Crocheted Hanging Basket that you can have a normal hanger (for displaying on your wall) or a Large Hanger (for hanging over the recievers door knob). Either case you the creater will have fun making and designing these fun May Day Hanging Baskets.

You can choose the square design of your choice, or use the one I've shared below. The square  MUST be SQUARE (same size on all 4 sides) for this to work.

The Orange one was worked with a J hook, the others were worked with a H hook.. (same pattern  was used however)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SPECIAL X Sts:
skip next st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in stitch just skipped X st just made. Each X st takes 2 sts  to complete
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rwo 1: ch 32, 1 dc in 2nd ch from hook and in each st across, ch 2 turn (29  sts)

Row 2: skip 1st st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in stitch just skipped [X st completed],  *skip next  st, 1 dc in next st, 1 dc in stitch just skipped, *Repeat across, 1 dc in last st, ch 2 turn (30 sts, = 14 X sts, 2 dc)

Row 3: 1 dc in each st across, ch 2, turn (30 sts)
Repeat row's 2 & 3:  6 more times ending after last row being a dc across.
Sc around cloth, , fasten off.

Change colors for trim, sc around, 3 sc in each corner, don't forget to add hanging loop on 2nd corner from trim beginning as below.

*Hanging Loop: sc down one side, and along another side, in center corner work, 1 sc, ch 10 for  normal hanger, [ch 35 for Lg. Hanger,] 1 sc all in same center st of this corner, then sc along  the rest of row, and sc down last row., finish off and leave a LONG TAIL for whip stitching  together take 2 opposite corners and put together matching sts, whip st to top of and tuck in tails

Now you can add a bow in the center , go through both layers [front & back] of cloth for stability (I do, it helps hold the weight of flowers)

Make a lovely card or note, add some fresh flowers or nice artificial flowers, pick out that special neighbor and go Bless them by leaving a love gift on their door.

Don't forget to make one for yourself, they are so simple and fun to make.

NOTE:
I made my first May Day Hanging Basket for my Mother back in March 2000 and she still has it hanging on her fireplace mantle. Brought back some lovely memories, so I decided to do this again for all my sourounding neighbors.. .. JMSQ

Ear-Warmers

This is NOT one of my patterns. It was given to me several years ago, can't even remember who gave it to me as it has been in my files, so I'm sharing it with you. They are QUICK, EASY and FUN to make, give away or sell at craft fairs. ($1.00 per pair)..

They stay on your ears, you can twist, turn, bend over and they will stay in place without messing up your hair. Slip a pair in your purse, glove box in your car, and your ready anytime of year. This will easily become your favorite pattern and clothing item to keep on hand.. Enjoy...JMSQ

H Hook

Beginning:  Chain 3 loosely, join with sl st to form ring.
Round 1:  Ch 3(counts as first dc); 9 more dc in ring; join with sl st
to top of ch3; 10 dc.

Round 2:  *In NEXT dc, dc 5 times; sc in next dc; repeat from *
around; DO NOT JOIN. 5 sc and 5 5-dc groups.  Notice that it looks
like a flower.

Round 3:  *Chain 5, sl st in sc after first 5-dc group; repeat from *
around; DO NOT JOIN. Do not pull sl st too tight. This is to make the
back row.

Round 4:  Flip each ch-5 BEHIND its 5dc group.  6 dc around each ch-5;
sl st in each sl st; DO NOT JOIN.  Your flower part is now complete.
Finishing:  Chain 6; turn "flower" over; attach ch-6 with sl st to the
sl st directly across from it.  This will make the ear warmer cup a
bit.  You will have 2 "petals" above the ch-6 and 3 "petals" below the
ch-6.  End off and weave in ends.

You wear them by hooking the chain-6 over your ears.
