2 - 8 oz. skeins of yarn
SPECIAL STITCH:
{Corner Sp,- 1 dc in last dc from privous row, 2 dc, ch 2 , 2 dc in ch 2 sp, 1 dc in first dc from privous row}
Ch 96, join to first ch form a circle, careful not to turn chain.
Row 1- Chain 3 [this counts as your first dc], dc in the next 2 chains [this completes your first block], ch 1 [this completes your first space], *dc in the next three chains, ch 1* around, join with a sl st to top of ch 3
Find the halfway point on the front of the poncho, which will be a ch1 space. Make sure that there are an even number of spaces between it and the corner on the first round from either direction. Use a large safety pin to mark this space.
Row 2: sl st next 2 sts, Ch 3 [counts as 1st dc],2 dc in ch 1 sp, ch 2, 2 dc in ch 1 sp, 1 dc in (next)first dc from privous row, ch 1 (first corner made) *3 dc, ch 1 in next ch 1 sp *repeat until next corner (16 - 3 dc groups) 1 dc in last dc from privous row, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in ch 1 sp, 1 dc in next dc from privous round ch 1 ( 2nd corner made) *3 dc, ch 1 in next ch 1 sp* join with a sl st to top of ch 3
Row 3: sl st next 2 sts, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in corner, 1 dc in first dc from privous round, ch 1 *Repeat 3 dc ch 1 in next ch 1 sp, to next corner* ( 1 dc in 3rd dc from privous row, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, in center ch 2 sp, 1 dc in next dc of privous round, ch 1 (corner made) Continue with pattern *, join with a sl st to top of ch 3
REPEAT row 3 for a total of 26 rows
Shell border:
**sl st next 2 sts, ch 4 (counts as trc), 1 trc, ch 1, 7 times in corner sp, 1 trc, ch 1 in next dc, (total 9 trc's & 9 ch 1's - Corner made) *sc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 1 trc, ch 1 (7 times) in next ch 1 sp, *Repeat to corner, then repeat ** Join & fasten off
NECK BORDERS: 2 choices
1.) Neck Border: Join in any st, *ch 1, sc in same st, 1 sc in each st around, join *(work 3 or 4 rows of 1 sc in each st around) & fasten off
2.) Cowl Border: Join with a sl st, ch 3, dc in each st around join with a sl st top of ch 3, REPEAT for a total of 6 to 8 rows depending on how high you want your cowl neck line, join & fasten off
