Materials:
Worsted weight about 2.5 ounces
H and I crochet hooks
Notes:
1. Mitt length can be adjusted by working more oe less rounds of cuff (rounds 1-6)
2. For a smaller mitt use G hook and change to H after the cuff.
Sizes:
M [L] Hand measured at knuckles 7.5” [8.5”]
Length approximately 7.5 inches

SPECIAL STITCH's:
NOTE: there are 2 ways you can work the X st, # 2 is easier for you if your new to doing this stitch, nevertheless they both work in this pattern and work up nicely.
X Stitch #1
ch 2, sk 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, *{go around back of st just made & into the front of prev. st} 1 dc in back & into prev. st.
X stitch #2
ch 2, *skip 1 st, dc in next st, 1 dc over front of previously skipped st, *Repeat across to last st, 1 dc , ch 2 turn

Front post and Back post
Appearance in pattern - fp(st) or bp(st)
The (st) denotes whatever stitch you are supposed to make around the post such as fpdc would mean double crochet around the front of the post.
FPHDC:
Yo, insert hook from front to back and to front again around the vertical post (upright part) of next st, yo and draw yarn through, yo and complete hdc.
BPHDC:
Yo, reaching over top of piece and working on opposite side (right side) of work, insert hook from right to left around vertical post of next st, yo and draw yarn through, yo and complete hdc.

Foundation chain: With H hook, ch 26 [28], join with slip stitch in first chain.
Row 1: Ch 2 (counts as hdc), hdc in each ch, ending with a slipstitch around ch 2, as if to front post. (26 [28] sts)
Rows 2-6: Ch 2, *bphdc, around next hdc, fphdc around next hdc*, repeat ending with a slipstitch around ch 2, as if to front post. At end of round 6, join with a slipstitch in top of ch 2. (26 [28] sts)
Change to I hook for remainder of mitt.
Rows 7-9: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in each st. Join with a slipstitch in first sc. (26 [28] sc)
Row 10: Ch 2, (don’t count as first dc), dc in same st as join, dc in each st across, ch 2 turn (26 sts)
Row 11;) 1 dc in same st as as join, ch 1, sk 2 sts, 1 dc in next st, *{go around back of st just made & into the front of prev. st} 1 dc in back & into prev. st. Front post and Back post

Row 12: Repeat Row 10 (26 sts)
Row 13: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next 9 [10] dc. *3 sc in ch 3 loop, sc in dc, 3 sc in ch 3 loop, sc in next 9 [10] dc. Join with slipstitch in beginning sc. (26 [28] sc)

Row (Right hand) 14: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next 19 [20] sts, ch 5 [6], skip 5 [6] sc, sc in 1 [1] sc. Join withslip stitch in first sc. (21 [22] sc and 1 ch 5 [6] loop)
Row (Left hand) 14: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in next st, ch 5 [6], skip 5 [6] sc, sc in 20 [21] sc. Join with slipstitch in first sc. (21 [22] sc and 1 ch 5 [6] loop)

Row 15 -19: *Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in each st, join to top of ch 2, *Repeat (26 [28] hdc)
Row 20:) ch 1, 1 sc, in each st around, Fasten off and weave in ends.
Optional Thumb:
Using a size H hook
Row 1:) Join yarn with a slipstitch in the first skipped sc of Round 13. Ch 1, space 12 [14] sc around opening, 1 sc in each of the 5 [6] skipped sts and the unused loop of ch, sc in the sides of the sc in rnd 14. Join with slipstitch in first sc. (12 [14] sc)
Rows 2-4:) Ch 1, (don’t count as first hdc), hdc in each st around. Join with slipstitch in top of first hdc. (12 [14] hdc)
Note: instead of doing a hdc on Row 4 of thumb, you can work a sc around. nice finish
Fasten off. Weave in ends.
