This is a size 0 - 3 but I think you could use it for up to size 6 months,
this goes down to just below the knee's

Button ~or~ tie to close securly - I use a tie weaved in and out of row 1
(Poncho tie's in back).. The tie's you see in photo are from bonnet

Sm. V St: 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc in same st
Lg. V St: 2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc in same st

H hook

Beginning at neck, loosely ch 36 sts.

Row 1 (right side):   Work 1 dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 7 ch, *Sm V st in next st, , 1 dc in each of next 7 ch,  *repeat from * twice, 2 dc in last ch. (3 Sm V Sts)

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, work 2 dc in 1st st, dc to center of V st, sm V st in V st,  dc next V st, work 1 Lg V st in center of V st, 1 dc in each st to next V St, work sm V st in V st, dc to last st, 3 dc in top of ch 3. (2 Sm V sts, & 1 Lg V St)

Row 3: [Joining Row]  Ch 3, turn, work 1 dc in 1st st, * 1 dc in each st to to center of V St, 1 sm V st in center of V st, *repeat from * twice, dc to last st, 2 dc in top of ch 3, sl st in top of beg ch3 to join. (3 sm V sts)

Row 4: ch 3, 1 dc in each st to center of V st, 1 sm V st in center of V st, 1 dc in each st to next V st, 1 Lg V st in center of V st, 1 dc in each st tonext V st, 1 Sm V st in center of V st, 1 dc to last st, make pronounced Lg. V st in st, join.  (2 Sm V sts, & 2 Lg V sts)

Row 5: ch 3, *1 dc in each st across to V st, work sm V st in each V st. *Repeat around

Row 6: ch 3, 1 dc in each st to center of V st, 1 sm V st in center of V st, 1 dc in each st to next V st, 1 Lg V st in center of V st, 1 dc in each st to next V st, 1 Sm V st in center of V st, 1 dc to center of V st, Lg. V st in st, join.  (2 Sm V sts, & 2 Lg V sts)

Row 7-10: Repeat row 5

Row 11: *1 HDC in each st to V st, work sm V st using hdc instead of dc in this st, *Repeat around, join, DO NOT FINISH OFF

Edging:  You decide which edging you desire, as you can see I have choosen to work the shell border around, making sure that in each V st there are 5 dc to fillin that space
