1,2,3 Baby Hats & Blankies

This pattern is several years old, I made my first "webpage" for this pattern in 2000, then another with Angelfire in 2004.- I first shared this pattern on-line in 1998 or 99, so as you can see, the © goes back a few years, and I've had this pattern written down on index cards and used it more times than I can count over the last 20 yrs.. Preemie Version
(1 sc, 2 ch's, 3 dc all in same space)
H Hook for Preemie's
For 4 ply yarn, ch 70 & follow directions below For baby weight yarn, ch 70, then follow directions below
Blankie's should measure 18" x 18"
H Hook - For full term babies
With 4 ply worsted weight yarn......Looks especially pretty with a varigated yarn.
Crochet 180 stitches loosely (or more to it about 36" x 45")
1st Row: 3 DC in 4th ch from hook. *skip 3 ch, 1 sc in next ch. Ch 2, 3 DC, in same sc. repeat across from *. ending 1 sc in last ch. Ch 3, turn.
2nd Row: 3 DC in last sc. *in next ch 2 space work 1 sc. ch 2, 3 DC* repeat from * across ending sc in top of ch 3 of previous row. Ch 3, turn. Repeat Row 2 until desired length. DO NOT FINISH OFF!!!!!!!!

Continue to work pattern all the way "around afghan".(All 4 sides - both sides, top & bottom of afghan)

Hook Size E (F & G)
E hook for 1 to 2 pounds Rows 1 & 2 , sk rows 3 & 4, continue with instructions of 5-10
F hook for 3 to 4 pounds Rows 1-3, sk row 4, continue with instructions 5-10
G hook for 5 to 6 Pounds Rows 1-3, work row 4 same as 5 thru 10
Note: Beg ch 2 does not count as a st in this pattern.

Hat: Beginning at top of hat, ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 2, work 13 dc in ring, join with a sl st in first dc. 13 sts.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, join with a sl st in first dc. 26 sts.
Rnd 3: Ch 2 dc in first st, *2dc in next st, dc in next st, repeat from * around ending with 2dc in last st, join with a sl st in first dc. 39 sts.
Rnd 4: Ch 2, turn, *dc in first two sts, 2dc in next st, repeat from * around, join with a sl st in first dc. 52 sts.
Rnds 5 - 10: Ch 2, dc in each st around, join with a sl st in first dc. 52 sts.
DO NOT FASTEN OFF

Edging: (Ch 1 and sc) in each st around, join with a sl st in first sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends of yarn. Turn up bottom of hat for brim.
