Knit or Crochet a Row, Then Go

This is such a great idea, I wish in the "USA" our favorite Restaurants &
 Dr's Offices, Hospitals, Craft Stores, & Yarn Shops,  Etc. Would set this
 out and help our local children with warm scarfs for the winter,

 I sure would work on a scarf while waiting, you could knit or crochet
 while waiting instead of entertaining yourself of the phone... Oh Yea

 Knit:
 Simply co 18 sts and begin knitting, knit your scarf the length of knitting
 needle 3 times and bind off. Add fringe to both ends or not, it's up tp you

 Crochet:
 Row 1: Ch 18 sts, 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each ch across,
 ch 1 turn

Row 2: 1 hdc in each st across (18 sts)

 Row 3: Repeat row 2 until scarf measures about  46" - 50". add fringe
 on ends or not.

You will find both a knitted & crocheted pattern below, You may also use

              Anawim  (Magic Ball = left over yarn remnants)
The word Anawim (pronounced 'on-a-whim' or An-a wheem ) is Hebrew
which has been translated as meaning poor, afflicted, humble or meek.
They are the “faithful remnants” who, even in the worst of times find their
security in the Creator. Indeed, the Anawim are all of us!

 Choose the pattern of your choice {Knit & Crochet patterns below},
and use up all the left over yarn you have as you create a unique colored
Hand-Warmer's filled with the rainbow of colors as in Joseph's coat, &
filled with your beloved prayers

I use mostly WW yarn, but if you are adding sport weight yarn, or baby
weight yarn,  you might want to use 2 strands held together.

Magic Ball -
What is a magic ball, well when I finish knitting or crocheting a project
and have just a little yarn left over, I wind it in a ball, then when the next
project is finsihed and there is just a little yarn left over, I tie it together
with the 1st ball I've started and wind it up, when it get's big enough to
use in a wonderful project such as this, I just grab a magic ball  and start
knitting or crocheting, Great way to use up all your left over yarn while
Blessing another with your gift of love..

NOTE: When using a magic ball of yarn, don't worry about the tails
(knitted pattern)  from joining together, just make sure the tales are on
the purl side, and "NO, YOU DON'T HAVE TO TUCK IN YOUR
TALES". You will only have 2 tails to tuck in, 1 the beginning tail
from your cast on, and 1 from sewing up the seams.

Tid Bits:
Buttons, Bows, Beads, Pockets, Lace, Zippers, Ect. just make sure they
are attached securely to purl side of hand-warmer BEFORE sewing
together

~Knitted Pattern~

 

10 Needles
Magic Ball of yarn
Tid Bit's (for seniors in nursing homes)

CO 40 sts
Row 1: k across
Row 2: p across

Repeat row's 1 & 2 until piece measures between 20"-22" bind off
with a LONG tail. (between 90 - 100 rows)   depending upon thickness
of yarn)

If piece measures a little smaller or larger it's ok, just make sure
you have a long enough tail for sewing along seam length wise
and the top seams together.LONG TAIL wind around your finger
and tie a bow to hold in place and just move it out of your way
until later when sewing up hand-warmer

Now decision time; lay your piece out flat, (knit side up) now
it's time to decide which end you want to show off and which
end you want to fold in. fold in 1/2 length wise, then again
width wise, now is the perfect time to decorate so go ahead
and add tid bits (optional) to the side you want to show off.

OK, now thats your done decorating your hand-warmer, it's time
to sew it together.

1.) Fold in 1/2 length wise, (Right sides together) sew down along
LONG seam

2.) now reach your hand into one end of hand-warmer and go to
opposite end and pull inside to opposite opening (your actually
turning this inside out)

3.) flatten with right side up facing you, now reach "inside to
opposit end" and pull end of hand-warmer inside to opposite
end, meeting both ends together. match the seams together and
sew along top edge going through both pieces.
Tuck in tails.

                                         ~Crochet Pattern~

Measures - {11 1/2" x 22' BEFORE assembled}
                   {5 1/2" x 10" when assembled}

If using a magic ball, crochet tails behind work as you go.

H Hook

1.) ch 40, 1 hdc in 2nd ch from hook

2.) ch 2, turn, 1 had in each st across

3-54) Repeat row 2
      DO NOT FASTEN OFF AFTER ROW 54

Decide which end will be decorated, decorate 1/2 of it (this will
be your top front).

Assemble:
Fold cloth in 1/2 length wise (wright sides together, wrong sides
facing out), 1 sc in each st along this side, (DO NOT FASTEN OFF),
now turn inside out with right sides facing out. Reach inside muff to
opposite opening and gently pull edge inside to match other end, now
1 sc in both inside and outter side of opening together around.
 FASTEN OFF & tuck in tails...

NOTE:
This is a wonderful project for using up all your left over yarns, OR
you can make it in 1 color if desired. I like to add tid bits to it and give
them to seniors to just keep their little hands warm, it also gives them
something to busy themselves with

Tid Bits:
Buttons, Bows, Beads, Pockets, Lace, Zippers, Ect. just make sure
they are attached securely to purl side of hand-warmer BEFORE
sewing together

Bonding Cloths

Bonding Squares are provided for Mom's whose babies are
in the NICU (neonatal unit).

Each Mother is given 2 matching squares, 1 is kept with
the baby and 1 is kept on Mom's body; Every visit with
the baby Mom swapes the cloths, now Mom has the
1 with the baby's scent on it, and the baby now has Mom's
scent with them, thus bonding

The Bondng cloths help to keep Mom & Baby bonded by
smell in the times they can't physically touch & be
together.

Size 6 Needles
WW Yarn {7 sets of pattern = 5" x 6"}
Sports Weight yarn (8 sets of pattern = 4 1/2"-5" x 5"}

CO 28 sts loosly
Knit 1 row, then follow pattern row's 1-4

Pattern:
1.) Knit Across
2.) k2, p across, k last 2
3.) k 2, k2 tog (2 times); yo, k1 (4 times); k2 tog (4 times);
yo k1 (4 times); k 2 tog (2 times), k last 2
4.) k across

Row 30: K across & BO

You can use any pattern you want, Hospitals like the bonding cloths
 to be about 5" x 5". I love the fan & feather pattern, I just think happy
thoughts whenever I see it, so thus, I changed it just a tad bit to fit
closely the measurements specified

Bizzy Pillows N Pockets

                               {In Memory Of Mom Q & Aunt Lois}

   Bizzy Pillow's are made in honor/memory of all patients who have
suffered  with Dementia/Alzheimer's disease.

   The Pillows are created to stimulate their brains. All our lives, we learn
to tie bows, work buttons, play with beads, use beads for counting, etc.
These pillows will give the patients something to do with their hands and
thus stimulate the brains...

*** NO this is not a cure for these patients, this is only something to keep
their hands bizzy & stimulate their brains at the same time

 I personally like using the Crochet Granny Squares. However, you can use
knitted squares as well. Make 2 (13x13) or (14"x14"). At the very top of my
pillow you'll see a pink bow tied, it un-ties and now you have a pocket to
add a pillow if desired. or use for keeping PJ's in, or just leave empty.. Add
pockets, ribbons, bells, toys, beads, zippers etc. to 1 side only.
Place both wrong sides together, I used a shell border around mine. You
can do whatever you feel is best for you... Tuck in your ends...

I have made Bizzy Pillow's by using this pattern and working 12 complete
rows around, folded it in 1/2 and sew up both sides and trim along top for pillow..


*ALOS, if you'll notice, I use the BRIGHT RED to catch their attention
with pockets, ties etc., Red stimulates the brain.

Neck Warmer

{In Honor Of My Mother, Merry Christmas Mom 2014}

This Neck Warmer was made with Lion Brand homespun yarn... I like my neck warmers about 28" because I don't like anything to snug along my throat, this is so soft and wonderful, I just love it...

10 1/2 needles

CO 21 sts, 
1.) *K1, P1, *Repeat this across

Repeat row 1 until piece measures 28", bind off

Sew along bottom seems, or sew buttons on to secure front...

F Hook

With Black Yarn,
ch 4, join to form ring, ch 2, make 9 dc's in ring,
join to top of ch 2, fasten off (10 sts)

With Red Yarn,
join in any st, ch 2, 1 TRC, ! dc in same st,
*(1 dc, 1 trc, 1 dc) in each st around, join to
top of ch 2, (30 sts) Fasten off..
DO NOT FASTEN OFF IF MAKING ORNAMENT

To make ornament, ch 14, join to ch 1 of 14, fasten
off and tuck in tails

With sm hook lift TRC forward around, tuck in Tails

Bucky's Bear

This is NOT one of my original patterns. This is how I enlarged the pattern to make a bigger bear (above). My hope is that you will use it to Bless Seniors with, Hurting Children, & ~or~ those less fortunate etc. ..

The original pattern is the smaller bears (above) that I got from Bev Q , She offers both Knitted version and crocheted version... I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do...

Black for eyes & Nose; red for mouth

switch to Color B, knit 28 rows (14 ribs)
Leave on needle or put on stitch holder

Switch to Color C

Shirt: Knit 8 rows (4 ribs)
Cast On 10 sts each side for arns and knit 10 rows,
Cast Off 10 sts each side and switch to Color A

FACE: Row's 1-19: knit across (9 ribs)

NOW is the easiest time to add facial features, eyes, nose & mouth

Row 20-38: Knit across (9 ribs)

Shirt:
Cast On 10 sts each side for arms and knit 10 rows,
Cast Off 10 sts each side
knit across 8 rows (4 ribs)

Switch to Color B

Pants:
Knit across 10 sts, (place other 10 sts on stitch holder)
Knit across 28 rows, (14 ribs);

Change to Color A

Knit 8 rows (4 Ribs)

*Repeat for leg 2

*With Color A,
pick up 7 sts on end of each sleeve and k 8 rows (4 ribs) for paws

Fold in half (with wrong sides together), whip st sides of
face together, turn inside out (right sides together), and
stitch across at an angle from eyes to about middle of top to
form ears. You may want to tug on yarn to form ears.
Turn inside out, (right sides together), whip st together
Stuff, and finish closing your bear.

Weave neck bow around 1st row of face and pull tightly, tie together and form bow
You can add bows to ears or not, get creative...


These are great bears for Senior's, Children, or just love gifts for that special little person


~Bucky~
Was the youngest of 5 boys, born in 1929 ( the Depression), little or no money. Abusive father who left them to fend for themselves. Never had a birthday party until after he married, Christmas was of no gifts, His Mom loved them all and did the best she could by them.

This pattern was enlarged with all the little Bucky's in mind who are going through tough times. They need love, compassion,  and need to know that someone cares about them. They need to know that they matter, They need to know that they are LOVED....

You see, Bucky was my very own Papa. It's in his memory that I felt lead to in-large this pattern so others could find that special person and give them the gift of love with no strings attached...
